I have been married to my wife Sue for nearly 45 years. We have two daughters and five grandchildren.
I’m a retired Divisional Sales Manager, now working part time within Durham University as a “Weekend Porter” at St Hild and St Bede College. The majority of many years employment, was spent working within the retail service sector with positions in various levels of management within Merchandising and Field Marketing companies, however I spent 10 years working in engineering.
These days, a lot of my spare time is spent working within my community in Burnhope. I presently Chair Burnhope Parish Council and have been a member of the Parish Council since 1987. I am also Vice Chair of the new Burnhope Community Association and am currently working with the committee to commence the construction of a new community centre, after gaining grant funding from the Big Lottery Fund for £583,000. I am also a member of The Friends of Burnhope War Memorial, where we have just received grant funding of £63,330 from The War Memorials Trust to restore our village memorial to its original condition. I enjoyed playing the drums at a semi-professional level for 40 years, although I no longer play.
I became a Governor several years ago to assist in the smooth running of the school. I feel that working in management for so many years, meant I could help to advise on decision making while ensuring that the children have a safe and happy learning environment.
